Wilropark Substation Design

PSW designs gas insulated substations which are generally are used in space constrained areas.. Because of the compactness of the equipment it only requires a small area of land and minimal civil work resulting in substantial savings and makes GIS compatible with AIS at higher voltages. One such project that was completed in 2018 was the design of  a new substation for Wilropark in Roodepoort, which entailed also that the existing substation be upgraded to an 88/11kV primary substation.

The project involved construction of the 88 kV HV GIS indoor switch house including three power transformer enclosures, 11 kV feeder board and protection and control chamber.  A HV GIS feeder board consisting of 2 line feeders bays, 3 transformer feeder bays, bus-coupler and VT bay.  All protection, control and SCADA equipment for the HV GIS component. Supply and installation of three 45 MVA, 88/11 kV power transformers and two new 11 kV feeder boards with stand-by board.

All required 11 kV and control cabling between the power transformers and HV GIS bays as well as the 11kV switchgear and control room.
